Chapter 8 - The Rebuilding of Cedar Veil

Six months later, Cedar Veil Estate was thriving more than it had in a century.

The Thorne Agricultural Foundation had officially partnered with regional organic farmers, turning the estate into a model for sustainable viticulture and community-driven agriculture. The historic stone manor was no longer a sterile venue for elite corporate galas; it was a warm, vibrant cultural center hosting local art exhibitions, wine-tasting workshops, and educational programs for young agricultural scientists.

I stood on the wide stone steps of the manor, looking out over the golden hills bathed in the warm light of an autumn sunset.

Thomas walked up the steps, holding a clipboard filled with harvest yields.

"We broke all previous records this season, Mr. Thorne," Thomas said, smiling broadly, handing me the report. "The organic Pinot Noir is receiving rave reviews from international critics. People aren't just coming here for the scenery anymore—they're coming for the authenticity."

"That's because we built it on solid ground, Thomas," I said, clapping him on the shoulder.

"Indeed we did, sir. Indeed we did."

As Thomas walked away, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and looked at the screen. A brief text message from an unknown number: *Thank you for the check, Daniel. I found a job in Seattle. I'm starting over.*

I didn't reply. I simply deleted the message, slid the phone back into my pocket, and took a deep breath of the crisp, clean autumn air.

The past was buried deep beneath the roots of the vineyards, nourishing the soil for something better, stronger, and entirely real.
