Chapter 5 - Exile from Paradise

The ink was barely dry when the private security guards entered the penthouse.
They didn't speak. They didn't need to. Two imposing men in dark suits stepped forward, flanking Ethan and Vanessa with quiet, practiced efficiency.
"Your personal belongings have already been packed and delivered to the resort lobby," one of the guards said in a flat, monotone voice. "Your return flights to New York have been canceled. Ground transportation to the municipal airstrip has been arranged. You are advised not to return to Connecticut, Manhattan, or any property owned or operated by Calloway Logistics or Pierce Global Holdings."
Ethan stood frozen, the gold pen still clutched in his numb fingers. He looked across the mahogany table.
Grace was sitting comfortably in her chair, sipping a glass of sparkling water, her expression completely serene. She didn't look at him as the guards grabbed his arms. She didn't offer a final parting word, a taunt, or even a sigh of relief. To Grace, Ethan Calloway had already ceased to exist. He was simply a discarded piece of trash being swept off the floor.
"Grace—please," Ethan choked out, his knees nearly buckling as the guards hoisted him upward. "The baby... let me at least... that's my child..."
Grace finally lowered her glass. She raised her eyes, looking at him with a chilling, absolute finality.
"That child will never know a man named Ethan Calloway," she said quietly. "Because as of ten minutes ago, when you signed those papers, your legal paternity rights were permanently severed as part of the asset forfeiture settlement."
Ethan let out a primal cry of absolute despair, but the guards cut him off, dragging him backward toward the double doors of the penthouse.
Behind him, Vanessa was already being escorted out by the second guard, sobbing uncontrollably, her designer shoes clicking unevenly against the marble floor as she was hauled away in total disgrace.
The heavy oak doors slammed shut, sealing them out.
Inside the suite, the silence returned—heavy, luxurious, and absolute.
Declan Pierce poured himself a glass of scotch, walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and looked out over the dark Atlantic Ocean. The storm clouds were breaking, and the first pale sliver of a crescent moon was beginning to pierce the night sky.
"Well executed, Grace," Declan said, raising his glass slightly toward the woman seated at the table. "The transition of assets will be filed in Delaware before sunrise. Calloway Logistics is officially ours."
Grace stood up, walking slowly toward the window to stand beside the billionaire. She placed a hand over her rounded belly, feeling the gentle, reassuring kick of her child.
For the first time in years, she felt completely safe.

"It was never about the company, Declan," Grace whispered, looking out at the endless horizon. "It was about reclaiming my life."
