Chapter 7 - Blackout at Vance Global

The next morning, the grand ballroom of the Grand Hyatt was packed to capacity with over two hundred journalists, camera crews, and live streamers.
Flynn Vance stood behind a podium flanked by high-priced defense attorneys in charcoal suits. He had spent his last liquid cash on professional grooming; his hair was neatly styled, his suit impeccably pressed, and he wore a black mourning band on his left arm. Beside him sat Chloe Sterling, dressed in modest beige, dabbing at her eyes with a lace handkerchief to paint the image of a supportive, misunderstood family friend.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the press," Flynn began, his voice breaking with theatrical sorrow. He bowed his head, wiping an imaginary tear. "The past forty-eight hours have been a nightmare of orchestrated slander and malice. I was in profound shock when my wife suffered complications during labor. The documents you saw leaked online were taken out of context—manipulated by a coordinated smear campaign."
Microphones thrust forward like spears.
"Mr. Vance, what about the reports that your wife is alive and in full possession of Hart Enterprises?" a reporter shouted.
Flynn let out a heavy sigh, looking directly into the primary broadcast camera. "Claire is... tragically unwell. The trauma of severe postpartum hemorrhage has induced severe cognitive distortion. She has been manipulated by predatory corporate advisors who are holding my children hostage behind locked gates to force me to surrender my life’s work. As a devastated father, I am filing for emergency conservatorship of my wife and full sole custody of my newborn twins, Leo and Maya!"
The room erupted into gasps and furious typing. Chloe nodded solemnly, leaning into a microphone. "We only want the children safe in a licensed medical facility. Claire’s erratic behavior poses an immediate danger to their lives."
Suddenly, the massive LED display screen behind the podium flickered.
The Grand Hyatt’s corporate presentation slide vanished, replaced by static.
Flynn turned around, frowning. "What is this? Technician, fix the slide!"
The static cleared.
In high-definition 4K, an audio-visual surveillance feed filled the massive wall. The timestamp was 3:15 AM—just seven hours earlier.
The video showed Dr. Warren Ross in the Hart estate medical lab, frantically unscrewing a syringe, muttering into his speakerphone. Chloe Sterling’s voice echoed through the ballroom speakers, crisp, unmistakable, and horrifyingly clear:
*"Make sure the potassium dose is enough to trigger a seizure, Ross. We need the ambulances arriving at Hart Crest while Flynn is on live TV. If those brats die, even better—Claire will be committed to an asylum for life."*
The ballroom froze. The air was sucked out of the room so fast that even the camera operators forgot to breathe.

Flynn’s jaw dropped. His eyes bulged with raw terror. "Shut it off! SHUT IT OFF!" he shrieked, throwing himself at the projector cables.
