Chapter 11 - The Cracks in the Victory

It was Friday afternoon when the first anomaly appeared.
Fiona Campbell arrived at the mews unannounced, her face pale, carrying a heavy, encrypted tablet that was still blinking with incoming encrypted transmissions from Zurich and Geneva.
"Harrison," Fiona said, stepping into the study where Harrison and I were reviewing the draft documents for the children's educational trust. "We have a catastrophic discrepancy in the asset recovery ledger."
Harrison set his fountain pen down, his brow furrowing. "What discrepancy? The federal marshals froze Bradley's accounts on Wednesday morning. The court-appointed receiver confirmed seventy million dollars had already been repatriated to Sarah's trust."
Fiona shook her head, her breath ragged. "That was Bradley’s personal money, Harrison. The secondary holding companies—the ones registered under the offshore vehicle *Aegis Sovereign*—they didn't freeze."
I stood up, sensing the sudden drop in the room's temperature. "Why didn't they freeze? Bradley owned them."
"That's the problem, Sarah," Fiona whispered, turning the tablet toward us. "Bradley *didn't* own them. He was merely an appointed managing director. He was a front."
Harrison’s eyes darkened as he grabbed the tablet, his fingers flying across the glass screen, pulling up the complex corporate hierarchy of the Cayman entity. His jaw tightened into a hard, dangerous line.
"Bradley was a puppet," Harrison muttered, his voice barely a growl. "He didn't have the intellect to design these derivative shields. Someone else provided the leverage. Someone else was using Bradley’s hedge fund to siphon Sarah's trust capital out of the United States."
"Who?" My voice shook as a cold wave of dread washed over me. "Fiona, who is behind Aegis Sovereign?"
"We don't know the full identity yet," Fiona said, her hands trembling as she adjusted her glasses. "The shares are held in bearer form through a private private-banking syndicate in Liechtenstein. But whoever it is, they just filed an emergency motion in the High Court of Chancery challenging the freezing orders. And Sarah... they didn't just challenge the freeze."

"What did they do?" I demanded, my fingernails digging into the edge of the mahogany desk.
"They just bought the freehold to this entire mews," Fiona said, her voice cracking. "The anonymous holding firm that leased this house to Harrison three days ago? It was acquired an hour ago by an offshore syndicate. Whoever this person is, they now own the roof over your head. They know every square inch of this property. They have the architectural blueprints, the security codes, and the master key."
