Chapter 10 - The Unseen Hand

I walked slowly across the plush carpet of the office, stopping beside the desk to look down at the object Arthur had left behind.

It was a heavy, custom-minted silver coin, identical to the ones my grandfather used to distribute among the elite inner circle of the Vanguard syndicate before he passed away—a secret society of global industrialists and financial masterminds that Julian had foolishly believed was just a myth. On one side of the coin was the familiar crest of an eagle holding a golden key; on the reverse side, freshly engraved with modern laser precision, were a set of geographic coordinates and a single word: *“Welcome home.”*

My heart skipped a beat. For years, I had believed I was working entirely alone, orchestrating my revenge against Julian as a solitary crusade. But this coin... this coin meant that my grandfather’s inner circle had been watching my every move all along, acting as silent guardians, clearing unseen obstacles from my path, and waiting to see if I truly possessed the ruthless brilliance required to inherit the global empire.

I picked up the heavy silver coin, feeling its cold metallic weight in the palm of my hand. The intercom on my desk chimed softly.

"Madam Chairwoman?" my secretary's voice crackled through the speaker. "The visitor... they’ve taken the private elevator up to your floor. Security tried to stop them, but... they bypassed the biometric locks using an override code we didn't even know existed."

I didn't panic. Instead, a slow, exhilarating thrill washed over me. The game with Julian was over, but a much larger, more dangerous, and infinitely more powerful game was just beginning.

I walked toward the heavy oak doors of my office just as the polished brass handle began to turn slowly from the outside. The lock clicked open with a quiet, decisive snap.
