Chapter 9 - THE CALDER WEDDING

*(Approx. 3,000 words)*

The wedding of the decade was held at *St. Jude-on-the-Lake*, a historic stone cathedral overlooking the glistening waters of Lake Michigan.

The guest list read like a who's who of Chicago aristocracy, international commerce, and local philanthropy. City councilmen, foreign ambassadors, elite business tycoons, and Bellamy’s entire front-of-house staff—led by a crying Arthur Pendelton holding a massive bouquet of white roses—filled the pews.

And at the front row, wearing an exquisite navy-blue silk dress designed by Maison de Lucille herself, sat Margaret Calder, signing rapid, joyful greetings to everyone who walked past.

The grand cathedral doors swung open.

The organ swelled into a breathtaking, triumphant rendition of Pachelbel’s Canon.

All heads turned.

Emma Reed walked down the aisle. She wore a breathtaking, custom-made ivory lace gown with a sweeping ten-foot cathedral train, her veil cascading like a waterfall over her shoulders. She didn't look like a struggling waitress anymore; she looked like a queen.

Standing at the altar, waiting for her in a bespoke charcoal tuxedo with a crisp white boutonnière, was Vincent Calder.

For the first time in his life, the ruthless billionaire looked genuinely nervous. As Emma drew closer, locking her eyes with his, a slow, breathtaking smile broke across his face—a smile so warm and radiant it made the stern, intimidating titan completely disappear.

When Emma reached the altar, her uncle—who had flown in from out of state—gently placed her hand into Vincent’s.

Vincent’s warm, strong fingers wrapped securely around hers.

“You look...” Vincent whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “I don't have the words.”

“Save them for your vows,” Emma whispered back with a playful, teasing smile.

The ceremony was breathtaking. In a touching, deeply emotional moment during the exchange of rings, Vincent didn't just speak his vows aloud—he signed them simultaneously, looking directly into Emma’s eyes with deliberate, heartfelt slowness so that anyone in the congregation with hearing impairments could share in the sacred moment.

“I, Vincent, take you, Emma,” he spoke and signed in unison, “to be my partner, my protector, my home, and my heart. For all the days of my life.”

“And I, Emma,” she replied, her voice ringing clear and strong through the cathedral while her hands mirrored every single word with practiced grace, “take you, Vincent, to be my strength, my love, and my forever. In every storm and every calm.”

“With the power vested in me,” the presiding bishop smiled warmly, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Vincent, you may kiss your bride.”

Vincent didn't hesitate. He pulled Emma into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a long, deeply passionate kiss that made the entire cathedral erupt into thunderous applause, cheers, and waving, clapping hands from the front row to the back.

As they walked back down the aisle together as husband and wife, confetti rained down upon them like glittering starlight.

Little did Emma know, the fairy tale was only just beginning.
