Chapter 10 - Queen of the City

One year later.
The terrace of the newly renovated penthouse on Fifth Avenue overlooked the emerald expanse of Central Park. The late afternoon sun bathed the city in shades of rose gold and amber, reflecting off the glass towers of the skyline.
Inside the grand salon, music played softly. *Vance & Moretti Architecture and Design* was now the most sought-after luxury firm on the Eastern seaboard, handling high-end restorative projects from Manhattan to Milan. Catherine’s name was synonymous with brilliance, resilience, and unassailable authority.
Catherine walked out onto the terrace, holding a glass of vintage champagne.
She wore a backless emerald-green silk slip dress that rippled like liquid water in the evening breeze. Her dark hair fell over her bare shoulders in soft, gleaming waves.
Strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a broad, solid chest.
Dante kissed the curve of her neck, his five-o'clock shadow prickling pleasantly against her skin.
“You’ve been out here for twenty minutes,” Dante murmured into her ear, his deep voice sending a familiar, delicious shiver down her spine. “Our guests are arriving in half an hour.”
Catherine leaned back against him, sighing with pure contentment. She turned in his embrace, resting her hands against the lapels of his black tuxedo jacket.
“I was just looking at the city,” Catherine said, smiling up at him. “Two years ago, I thought my life was over on a rainy sidewalk outside a French restaurant.”
Dante looked down at her, his smoky gray eyes filled with an intensity of love that took her breath away every single day. He gently traced the line of her jawline with his thumb.
“That sidewalk was the day my life began,” Dante said softly. “Before I bumped into you, Catherine, this city was just a collection of debts, blood, and obligations. You gave it meaning. You gave *me* a home.”
Catherine’s breath caught.
Dante stepped back slightly. With slow, deliberate grace, the man who had brought syndicates to their knees and billionaires to their ruin sank down onto one knee before her.
From his pocket, Dante produced a vintage velvet box. He clicked it open.
Inside rested a magnificent ten-carat emerald-cut diamond, flanked by two trillion-cut black diamonds set in handcrafted platinum—bold, unique, unbreakable, and dangerous.
“Catherine Vance,” Dante said, his voice vibrating with absolute sincerity, his eyes fixed on hers. “You are my partner. My equal. My heart. You conquered this city by my side, and there is no queen I would rather share this world with. Will you marry me?”
Tears—pure, radiant tears of absolute happiness—welled in Catherine’s eyes.
She didn't hesitate. Not for a single fraction of a second.
“Yes,” Catherine whispered, a brilliant, dazzling smile illuminating her face. “Yes, Dante. A thousand times, yes.”
Dante slipped the heavy ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly, cold metal turning instantly warm against her skin.
He rose to his feet, swept her into his arms, and lifted her off the terrace floor, crashing his lips down upon hers in a deep, passionate, possessive kiss that tasted of freedom, triumph, and eternal devotion.

The city lights flickered to life below them, stretching out to the horizon like a sea of diamonds.
The woman who had once been shamed and abandoned on the pavement had risen from the ashes—not as a victim, but as a queen who ruled the night beside the only man worthy of her heart.
